George Dimmock was the second child of David Dimmock & Mary Halsey christened November 17th, 1839 at Sandridge, Herts.

In 1841 George was living in Sandridge, Herts with his parents & older sister Mary.

George’s mother had died prior to 1848 when his father married Mary Adams.

In 1851 the family was still living in Sandridge & George now had 2 younger brothers, Alfred & William & a younger half-sister, Emma (1) as well as a step-sister, Susanna Adams.

In 1861 George was working as a potman (who collects pots & glasses) at the Royal Oak, 2 Regent St, Westminster, the landlord of which was George W Young.

On November 4th, 1861 George (Dimock) married Phoebe Woolmer at St Mary the Virgin, Monken Hadley, Barnet, Middlesex.  George was described as a labourer as was his father, David.  Witnesses at the wedding were James Backhurst & Mary Ann Woolmer.  Phoebe was born at Winchmore Hill & christened December 8th, 1839 at St Paul, Edmonton, Middlesex, the daughter of Mary & Thomas Woolmer, a labourer.

By 1871 George (listed as John!) & Phoebe were living at Gardener’s Cottage, Widmore Rd, Bromley, Kent.  George was working as a domestic gardener & he & Phoebe had a 5 year old daughter, Mary Ann.  Sadly a son George had died in infancy in 1864 & there is a record of another son being born in 1869 who appears not to have lived.

In 1881 George, a gardener, & Phoebe were living at the Laundry at the Rectory in Wickhambreux St, Wickhambreux, Bridge, Kent.  Phoebe was working as a laundress.

Daughter Mary Ann married James John White, a gardener, on October 22nd, 1885 at Wickhambreux.

George & Phoebe had moved to Herne Bay, Blean in Kent by 1891 & were living at 22 Underdown St.  George was still a jobbing gardener.

George died at Herne Bay & was buried on March 16th, 1897 at Wickhambreux, Kent.

In 1901 widowed Phoebe was living on her own at 6 Park Terrace, High St, Herne Bay & described as a lodging housekeeper.

At the time of the 1911 census Phoebe was visiting Annie & Henry Edwards, a retired china dealer, at 328 London Rd, Thornton Heath, Croydon, Surrey.

There is a death for Phoebe Dimmock registered in July-September 1915 in Bridge, Kent.
